Review guidelines
How reviews from dog owners come about, how we check them and what is allowed.
In short
On Dog Flight Guide, dog owners tell others how flying with their dog went on an airline or with a carrier. Every review is confirmed by email and checked before it goes online. Criticism and bad experiences are welcome. What is not allowed is listed below.
- Confirmed by email
- Checked by AI and people
- Criticism stays online
Who can write a review
Anyone who has flown with their dog. You do not have to sign up: you give your name or a pseudonym and your email address, and you can choose to have your review shown without a name. We never show your email address.
The link in our email confirms your review; only then do we check it. A review that is not confirmed is deleted after 14 days.
You can review an airline or a carrier more than once, after each flight for example. If someone has several reviews under their name, only the newest counts towards the average.
What we can check, and what we cannot
We do not check whether someone really flew with the airline or bought the carrier: we ask for no booking, ticket or receipt. What we make sure of is that a confirmed email address stands behind every review, and that its details fit together, for example whether the airline allowed dogs in the cabin at the time.
How we check reviews
An AI reads every confirmed review first. It checks it against the rules below and looks at whether the details fit together. If it finds nothing, the review goes online automatically. If it finds something, or is unsure, a person looks at the review and decides. Only a person ever turns a review down.
Photos are checked the same way, each on its own. A review always goes online together with its photos.
The stars decide nothing: a review with one star goes online just like one with five. Most reviews are online within 48 hours, and you get an email as soon as yours can be seen.
Write your review in English or German. It appears in both languages: the translation is made by the AI too, and translated reviews say so.
Independent of airlines and makers
We do not remove a review because it is negative, not even when an airline or a maker asks us to. We pay nobody for reviews and write none on behalf of others.
Carriers we have affiliate links for follow the same rules as all others. A commission changes neither which reviews appear nor their order (affiliate disclosure). The reviews do not count towards the Dog-Friendly Score, which rates each airline's rules.
On the airline review pages the newest flights come first, on the carrier pages the most recently written reviews. You can sort by most helpful and by stars and filter by kind of flight.
What is allowed
Your own experience, in your own words: criticism of an airline, its service or its rules, low ratings and plain words about a trip that went wrong. Negative reviews are as welcome as positive ones.
What is not allowed
Reviews are meant to help other dog owners. That is why we do not publish reviews with:
- insults or degrading statements about people, such as staff, other passengers or groups
- personal details of others, such as names of staff, booking codes, phone numbers or addresses
- advertising, links, discount codes or business contact details
- details that cannot be true or contradict each other
- content that is not about the airline or carrier, such as a hotel or another airline
- a repeat of a review you have already written
- threats or illegal content
Nor do we publish reviews that were paid for with money, vouchers or other benefits, or written by people who work for the airline or the maker.
All of this also applies to your name: a pseudonym is fine, advertising or insults in it are not.
Photos
Photos make a review more telling: your dog in the carrier, the space under the seat, check-in or the arrival. Photos of the plane or the cabin fit too. You can add up to 4 photos to a review. We shrink them before they are uploaded, which also removes the location and other hidden data. By sending them you allow us to show them with your review.
If a photo breaks these rules, we turn down that photo only. Your review itself is not affected.
Not allowed on photos
- people who can be recognised, except you together with your dog
- personal details such as boarding passes, bookings, IDs, name tags or number plates
- advertising, links, QR or discount codes
- photos that are not your own, for example from shops or the internet
- violence, nudity or anything offensive
Reporting a review
Every review has a "Report" link. Choose the reason; if it is about a photo, you pick the photo. A reported review stays online until we have looked at it: a report alone never takes a review down. If you leave your email address, we confirm that your report arrived and tell you what we decided.
You can report illegal content as a notice under the Digital Services Act. For that we need an explanation, your name, your email address and your statement that your details are accurate to the best of your knowledge. Depictions of child sexual abuse can be reported without name and email.
Reports about personal details and illegal content come first. If someone keeps sending reports that are clearly unfounded, we may leave their further reports aside; reports about personal details and illegal content are always looked at.
If we turn down or remove a review
If we do not publish a review or a photo, or take it down later, you get an email with the reason, for photos one reason per photo. You are welcome to write the review again. We keep a review we turned down for 180 days after our decision, in case you object, and then delete it.
If you see it differently, write to us or send an email to hello@dogflightguide.com. We look at the decision again. You can also take legal action at any time.
Changing or deleting your review
A published review cannot be edited for now, but you can write a new one; of the reviews under your name, the newest then counts. To have a review deleted, write to us from the email address you confirmed it with. It disappears with the next update of the site.
