Cabin fees run from 73 EUR / 85 USD and hold fees from 83 EUR / 105 USD per route, increasing by distance. Brachycephalic breeds are banned from hold transport from 26 October 2025.

Dogs travel in the cabin only, in an approved non-rigid carrier up to 45x39x21 cm with a combined pet and carrier weight up to 10 kg. Animals cannot travel in the cargo hold, and one pet is allowed per passenger (up to 5 pets per flight, or 2 on Iberia-operated flights). Cats and dogs must be microchipped and hold a valid passport with rabies vaccination. This service is not available on flights to or from the UK and Iceland.
ITA Airways also runs a Large Dog on Board service on select routes, described in its conditions above. Our news post from August 2026 explains how it worked at launch.
No fixed weight limit: the carrier decides
These airlines set no weight limit for the cabin. Your dog has to fit in a carrier that goes under the seat in front of you, so in practice the carrier size is the limit.

TKToo big for the cabin? Airlines with a hold option
If your dog is too heavy for the cabin, it can fly in the climate-controlled hold on these airlines, some on your own flight, some as a cargo shipment. The weights are the stated maximum for dog and kennel together. Where an airline offers both, limits and conditions can differ between the two, and one of them may be restricted, so check the airline page.
Large dogs in the cabin: FAQ
Which airlines allow large dogs in the cabin? ▾
ITA Airways (12 kg) and Vueling (10 kg) allow more than 8 kg in the cabin, including the carrier, at least on some routes. 11 airlines, mostly in North America, set no fixed weight limit as long as your dog fits in a carrier under the seat. A truly large dog flies in the cabin only as an exception, such as ITA Airways' Large Dog on Board service on select Italian routes.
How much can a dog weigh to fly in the cabin? ▾
Usually 8 kg (17.6 lb) including the carrier. Vueling and ITA Airways allow 10 kg or more, at least on some routes. Airlines without a fixed limit decide by carrier size instead: your dog has to fit in a carrier that goes under the seat in front of you.
Can a 10 kg dog fly in the cabin? ▾
On most airlines, no: the usual limit is 8 kg including the carrier, and the carrier itself weighs something too. It can work on ITA Airways, whose limit is above 10 kg with the carrier (check which routes it covers), and on airlines without a fixed weight limit if your dog fits in an approved carrier under the seat.
What if my dog is too big for the cabin? ▾
Then it travels in the climate-controlled hold. 28 of the airlines we compare offer that, with stated limits of up to 75 kg for dog and kennel together. Book early, as places are limited, and check the breed rules, since many airlines exclude snub-nosed breeds from the hold.
